Throwback of the Day
702- Where My Girls At
702’s Where My Girls At was released in 1999 (I wasn’t even 10 LOL) from their second album 702. The single gained great chart success being in the top 5 of U.S Billboard Hot 100 & R&B/Hip Hop as well as U.K charts.
The song was produced by Missy Elliott and to this day is 702’s best known song, who can be surprised when Missy produces the hottest tunes about for over a decade! This song is just great for women as well as men because the beat is just heavy, the voices on point and the vibe just that sick! This was just the theme and sound of the 90s, Hip & B!!
Forever will be relevant as a song!
Throwback of the Day
Blackstreet- Don’t Leave Me
Blackstreet’s Don’t Leave Me was released in 1997 off of their Another Level album and did very well on Airplay charts as well as UK and Australia charts. Singing about the battle between couples and the love men are crying out for for their females, 90s R&B did everything singers of today cannot!
With tight vocals and even cleaner harmonies Blackstreet were the power group of the 90s and this song just portrays everything amazing about their music.
Throwback of the Day
Basement Jaxx - Romeo
Basement Jaxx are a London electric/dance producing duo who produced one of the greatest Dance tunes of the late 90s and early 00s.
One of their most popular hits Romeo was released in June 2001 and it reached No.1 UK Dance Charts and No.5 Billboard Dance Chart in the US, receiving great reviews and success from many sources, some claiming it to be the best dancefloor anthem to date!
I loved this song because of the vocals from UK R&B singer Kele Le Roc for her simple yet drawing in vocals. Also the sound had everyone on their feet no matter where they were, such a great dancefloor sound with a creative video!
Throwback to the young days!
Throwback of the Day
Alanis Morissette- Ironic
Ironic was Alanis’ third single from her third album Jagged Little Pill and it was released in February of 1996. The single had great chart success reaching No.4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart however still reachong No.1 on several specific charts.
When I was younger I heard this song alot on MTV and grew to really like it. Mainly because of the power of the music as well as the energy in her vocals and growing up I’ve realised that this was actually an amazing single.
Throwback of the Day
Fantasia- When I See You
When I See You reached Number 1 in the U.S Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Charts from Fantasia second album Fantasia in 2007.
Fantasia’s 2nd album was actually an amazing piece of work full of different elements of Ballads, R&B, Hip Hop and more to draw in more audience and to display her genuine talent.
When I See You is a really simple and great track from Fantasia just showing all that she is, an amazing singer!
Throwback of the Day
Dodgy- Good Enough
Good Enough by Dodgy, a Britpop Indie Rock band from the UK, was released in Autumn of 1996, the good old days of Britpop. The song reached Number 4 of the UK Charts and is probably the groups most memorable song to date.
I just remember this from my young school days and just enjoying the liveliness of the track with the joy and entertainment, nothing pretensions just a great summer track!
BRING BACK THE 90S!!!!
Throwback of the Day
Robin Thicke- Wanna Love You Girl
Wanna Love You Girl was Robin Thicke’s debut single from his second album The Evolution of Robin Thicke, released in August 2005. Despite the failure to do impressively well in the charts, it did bring Robin onto the music scene as a talented Blue Eyed Soul singer.
At first I didn’t like this song, but after a while it grew on me and I loved the bridge break and his falsetto vocals!
Despite the poor chart number many people loved Robin after this track and many people continued to play the song for a long while.
Throwback of the Day
Timbaland & Magoo ft Missy Elliot- Cop That Disk
In 2003 Timbaland & Magoo released a duo album titled Under Construction, Part II, a sequel to Missy Elliott’s album Under Construction and this song was the 1st single off the album.
The single didn’t do extremely well in the charts but it was in everybody’s ears and mouth! It was such a banger back in the day and even still today when it’s dropped anywhere people are ready to break it!
The video alone was groundbreaking, bring forward the moves and fashion of 80s Hip Hop. From the dancing, battles and swag of 80s just to educate the kids of today!
The beat was too hard not to move to it, even writing this now I’m busting a few moves! From the loop of the piano to the hard beat of the drums, Timbaland really is a professor of production.
To the hard lyrics from all the artists! Bringing forward the lyrics of iconic Rappers; Timbaland’s verse- ‘I Know I Got Soul’ by Eric B & Rakim, Missy’s verse- ‘Paper Thin’ by MC Lyte and Magoo’s verse- ‘I Got It Made’ by Special Ed but also mixing it with their own flow and lyrics.
I think this song and video will go down in history as one of the best of Timbalands, Magoo and Missy tracks! Too much!
Throwback of the Day
Mr Oizo- Flat Beat
Released in 1999, Flat Beat shot straight to No.1 in the UK with the catchy, continuous and slightly annoying beat.
The basic video featured Flat Eric bopping his head to the beat like we all did then!
Hearing this video many years later made me think what were we listening to then but realising nothing much has changed!
Still like the video!
Throwback of the Day
LL Cool J ft Total- Loungin’
Loungin’ was released in June 1996 coming from LL’s 6th album Mr Smith.
This single received massive airplay in America and also rising the charts in the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs reaching #3 & #4 respectively.
Around this time LL was trying something different with this album, more Hip Hop love/ballad songs, steering away from his hardcore rap of ‘14 Shots to the Dome’ to more love songs like ‘Doin It’ and ‘Hey Lover’, which gave him more of his popularity of that he has up till today.
I remember being a young child watching TV and seeing this video, people were having a good time! The rapping and singing was a new flex that artists of the time were doing, showing a collaboration of both sides.
Looking back at this song now and it was truly a tune! Summer in the 90s was live!
Throwback of the Day
Tank- Please Don’t Go
Tank is the (2nd) King of R&B with his POWERFUL, amazing, emotional voice he deserves that name no matter the debate! His album Sex, Love & Pain really illustrated his wicked talent as a singer and songwriter because this album had such a range of songs; from the club tunes to the emotional ballads, all showing his amazing vocals.
Please Dont Go is my favourite song from and one of my favourite songs of all times from a male singer! The emotion alone does it for me, his vocals just has that from beginning to end. Then the lyrics has real meaning and conviction, really making them ladies stay. The harmonies in this song were simple yet ear-gasming, nothing too much but great for this song!
Tank really doesn’t get the recognition and love he deserves worldwide, just by real R&B lovers. But I’m happy that people who know him love his work! This album is incredible! Listen and learn!
Throwback of the Day
Mary J Blige- No More Drama
No More Drama was the title of Mary’s 5th album and also the title of her 3rd single. This song was released in 2001 around a time when the world was going through struggling times and it seems like the song was meant to be an uplifting song to give encouragement.
This song to me was such an incredible song giving inspiration and strength to any and everyone at any stage in their life. I really felt a closer connection to this song after my Aunty died so young and this song gave me a chance to really release.
The video is so empowering and visually emotional, Mary has been so amazing to illustrate great emotional songs and videos to make her audience and fans really get that closer connection.
I really do love this song because of the power and emotion behind it!
Throwback of the Day
Beverly Knights- Keep This Fire Burning
I have been a Beverly Knights fan from 2002 with her ‘Shoulda Woulda Coulda’ track. However, she has been in the industry since 1995 with her debut album ‘The B-Funk’ marking her path.
Here is my favourite single from Ms Knight, with the funky dance track that allows you to get down and still enjoy her vocals! The video was great and amusing with her dancing as well as the whole video concept! My favourite part (minus the next dance moves) is the final accapella vocals at the end! Love it!
I love her vocals because she delivers that solid and strong sound with such a full nice tone! I love because she also gives the classic R&B sound with a modern twist!
This single did relatively well reaching No.16 in the UK and No.4 in Belgium! But to me this was an incredible single! Still love it!
Throwback of the Day
Tevin Campbell- Can We Talk
Released in 1993 Can We Talk has been a classic R&B song for many many years. Illustrating the classic love song, original music from that time and great video of the 1990s.
Tevin’s vocals were so incredible at that age, soft and high yet powerful at the same time and unique! The harmonies were on point and soothing and the beat was just what we need back in todays music

Sounds Of Blackness- Optimistic
When I was very young around 5 yrs old there was a song that was constantly being played in my home, and being so young I paid no mind to the artist or song but obviously sang and danced along. But as I grew older and the song was still in my memory I tried to find the song but had no information except for the melody deep in my brain. After more than 10 yrs searching I stumbled upon the song on Youtube (We Thank God for Youtube)!
Once I heard it 10yrs later a tear almost dropped down my cheek at the joy of finally finding it!
This song has such amazing emotion, power and a great message! Loved it when I was young still today! The vocals from the soloist and the choir is powerful and beautiful from the words to the harmonies as well as the visuals from such a classic 90s video! Love it!
Never letting this song out my sight again! :’)
